You’ve gotten a lot of good advice here. Read it all again.

If you’ve been living in SoCal, do you REALLY think you would do well in a much colder, or hotter/far more humid place? What if you’re stuck there FOREVER?

Someone suggested renting for a year or so, and that is a good idea. Just because an area looks good to you doesn’t mean the ‘home folks’ will think the same of you. You’ll be an interloper.

If you’re looking to buy, don’t take anyone’s word for anything, including the quality of the soil. And check all of the local regulations, esp about water. If the place has a watersource, you may not be able to use it, or use the land near it for anything. Check with a local insurance agency to find out what flood zone it’s in; A is bad, B is not quite so bad, C is pretty good, X is best. There’s probably some in between, but those are the basics.

In UT, you may be driven to carrying a weapon because every clerk will ask you the same question: “What ward are you in?” I’ve driven in a good many states, and UT has my vote for having some of the stupidest people driving almost between the lines. No place could touch them until I moved here to WA.

I would advise you to stay away from Effing Stupid Central (WA State). I’ve lived in this pit of despair for 23 very long years, and I’m finally getting out this summer. At least 70% of the people here (maybe more) are the most stupid, ignorant, obnoxious, arrogant, lying, thieving AHs that I’ve ever met. The average local zombie vocabulary has about 100 words in it, certainly not more than 200 (and none of the words have more than two syllables). They can’t think, don’t even know the concept of cause and effect, can’t drive, can barely park, and can’t back up w/o hitting something. Okay, these are the business people! The rest of them are worse.

If there’s meth use in the area (practically the whole state), they will steal everything that isn’t welded down, and if they have darkness and a hacksaw, they’ll take everything that’s welded down, too. NEVER sell a car w/o immediately letting the DMV know about it. The buyers are bad about doing it themselves, plus being lousy drivers, so you don’t want the cops at your door, saying that car ran down a pregnant woman pushing a baby stroller.

You’re not going to find perfect, so you’d better do your homework so you can find something you can live with. Everything is going to be an uphill learning experience. Try to homeschool, if you can; the public school system in the U.S. is the worst of all the industrialized nation, as well as being the most expensive.

With lots of the stuff he says he comes across as a complete idiot. For example, go to 6:38 on the video which I link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI9tov6A2DI

It all depends on the audience you seek and are trying to influence! I am sure he has no interest in anyone, with practical knowledge of weapons. Seriously – does the truth have anything to do with politics or how most people vote? It takes no brains or much effort to vote, all thanks to our lovely Constitution and the many mistakes of our Founding Fathers.

The bottom line is he is a billionaire with massive financial / political influence and that squeaking noise form some gun loving peons – just doesn’t matter! Or we can all hang onto Trump’s every statements about the Second and they may even be true, but have you ever seen him hunting or even with his hands dirty? Sure his son does some canned trophy hunting, but what does that have to do with the Second?

The Second will stand, but don’t be surprised with some deals on the side. Swamp

The video, it is just another waste of time, just like a preacher – who only preaches to the choir.

Are you sure these people “made” their fortunes or did they inherit them? (I have no clue, I’ve been too busy lately to be up to date on this stuff) And well, honestly? I know of quite a few stupid exceptionally wealthy people. Money doesn’t necessarily make you smart.

On the other hand, while I have a high IQ, I’m poor. So there you go. Life happens in both directions. Enough bad turns with the right timing and you suddenly find yourself flat on your arse wondering what happened.

I will say that for conservatives to be so anti big business (you know that 1 percent thing) I’m surprised you’re not nervous over this development, whether these people are “smart” or not. I can’t say that I’m too fond of the idea and as for them not being able to do worse than the past 8 yrs?? Are you serious? They could do an awful lot of damage in those positions. What about Trumps promises to tax imports? Big business imports their own goods that are made elsewhere cheaper or parts to make their goods here to keep their profits high……..now how is that going to go over with big business? (or this cabinet)

No, these ultra wealthy folks (I’m not including Ben Carson as he can’t be classified big business type) can’t be bribed with cash, but they can be bribed with power, which is what Trump just handed them.

I’m determined to give Trump a chance. But I’m going to be honest that I hope & pray we haven’t just hopped out of the pot straight into the fire.

I’m not quite sure how i feel about that statistic. I mean, if you’re looking to hire successful “get her done” type people, then he has done it. (if money is your measurement). Part of me is scared that people the amassed that kind of wealth may be greedy bastards and really screw us all over for their own benefit. Then on the other hand, how do you bribe a billionaire? I mean these folks have so much that you can’t sway them with partnerships and offers. It won’t change their life. So the may be immune. Honestly a lot of people go into these positions knowing its 4 years (8 at best) and they plan own feathering their nest and lining up stuff from day one. They want to get where these people are already.

For example, what can some text book or educational computer company offer Betsy DeVos? Not a d@mn thing. She has spent millions of her own money fighting to fix education outside the system because the system wouldn’t respond. Heck, she can drop the whole charter school thing now, because she IS the system. She runs the whole shooting match. You want her support, you better come correct with something that works. What is a real-estate developer going to offer Ben Carson. That dude wants to write his name on another page in the history books. Money won’t do it.

This could be very interesting.

I can’t see why this is relevant in terms of running a country. I’d guess the average lawmaker makes more money in a year than any of us, or most of us. Whether it’s a few hundred thousand or a few million or billion it’s still not within our financial reach, is it? How is this any different than the original Founding Fathers and representatives who, by yesterday’s standards, were wealthier than your average citizen?

In some canneries have a sealer that can be “checked out”. I’m not sure if you get it if you’re not a member or if your local canneries have one. If that’s something you’re really interested in, let them know, I’m sure there’s a member that would get it and help you with your canning. You can purchase the #10 cans and the oxygen absorbers, then you can whatever you want. I love the quality and the price the LDS church provides for food storage.

January 14, 2017 JC1 0

Start with the necessities: food (and a way to cook it – warm food is nice on a cold day but things you don’t have to cook works too), Shelter (and a way to keep it warm), something to drink (water is always good – whiskey  it’s not like you are driving anywhere).

Then look at the “that would be greats”: light (stay away from candles/open flame, battery or solar lanterns are great, something you don’t have to hold), entertainment (books, games, cards, etc). A generator is always great. Depending on the things you are using a a CO2 detector could be really important (know what you can use indoors and what you can’t) :caution: . If it’s cold enough you are worried about pipes freezing, leave a faucet running, just a little to keep the water moving.

We had a storm last weekend that was expect to be so bad I received calls from my neighborhood group, the city SERT team, and the county. We made sure our propane was full (didn’t need it), and pushed snow (for ourselves and neighbors). Make sure fire hydrants are clear (3′ all the way around) a few minutes in an emergency could be….. really bad)

Enjoy the down time!

I am sure glad I don’t have to worry about all this. The snow is waist deep and it about -54 wind-chill. About to snow up here is a daily fact starting about the end of Oct. As a matter of fact we look forward to the snowy days, that means it will have to warm up. Our standard routine up here is top off the gas tank and get a couple of gallons of milk, everything else is already stocked.

The vast majority of the world’s wealthiest people have inherited, not earned their wealth. While DJT didn’t start out poor, he has earned the majority of his wealth.

That said, most of us average folk can vastly better our lives by being smarter about life in general and $ in particular. Two of the smartest men I’ve ever known had nothing more that a HS diploma.
