First Aid & Medicine • praticing Suturing a Wound

August 24, 2017 stonyman002 0

I have watched several u-tube videos on this topic and it really didn’t look that hard. Not wanting my first time to be on myself or a friend I decided to do a pratice run. It was not as easy as they made it look on video. I am sure with more pratice it would get easier. I tried 2 different techniques. single suture and a continuing suture. I liked the continuing suture better ( less knots ). definitely need more pratice but in a pinch I am comfortable I could sew someone up.

Tennessee Discussion, News and Weather • Re: Solar Eclipse in TN

August 23, 2017 stonyman002 0

Don’t know how things went in other parts of the country. I did not have glasses and did not participate. But what I saw got me to thinking. I was taking a friend to a doctor appointment at the time of the event. There were like 3 cars on hwy 41 that were moving. everyone else was pulled over to the side of the road and in parking lots with their silly glasses on looking up at the sun for 2 minutes. It was almost like a timestop had hit my town and I was one of the very few not effected. At any given point I expected those four memorable notes from the twilight zone theme song to come over my radio.

If I were a conspiracy theorist ( which I will not admit or deny ) I would wonder if our government used this natural event to observe how well it’s sheeple followed orders and did as they were told. And have those of us that did not do as we were told been added to a list of potential trouble makers? Not that it really matters I am probably already on that list. LOL

General Preparedness Discussion • Re: The truth about Rice and Beans

August 9, 2017 stonyman002 0

I got a hankering for pinto beans and rice the other day. put the beans in the slow cooker and in three hours added the rice. And then I got sidetracked….

Happen to walk through my kitchen 4 hours later. All the moisture was gone, it had pushed the lid off the slow cooker ( thankfully it fell on the counter and not the floor) If I could have gotten this brick of rice & beans out in one piece I could have used it for a corner stone on a small log cabin.

I am thankful my slowcooker survived.

I believe being able to assess your situation, choose a course of action and roll with it. Is the number one skill to survival.

Those that cannot will find their self depending on someone else, telling them what to do.

General Preparedness Discussion • Re: August 2017 – What Did YOU Do To Prep this Week/Month?

August 6, 2017 stonyman002 0

Scored at an estate sale today.

one of those where they open the door and are selling everything in the house. This one was being run by the grandson. While I was in the back porch I noticed a small metal building in the cornor of the back yard all rusted out and the roof caved in. I ask the grandson if there was anything in the back shed? He said he didn’t know but we could go look. The first thing we saw was a 4 foot black snake and that city boy about crapped his pants. He said if I wanted anything from that building I had to dig it out my self. I was looking at that stack of mason jar boxes against the back wall and said I’ll give you 20.00 for everything in the shed and that way you don’t have to deal with the snakes. He said deal… I handed him the money and went to pull my van around back.

22 boxes of jars. pints, quarts and half gallons.
16 Pisces of cast iron. dutch ovens, skillets and griddles.
2 large pressure cookers
a couple of boxes of old kitchen stuff
and other assorted treasures. well treasures to me but to the grandson just a bunch more junk LOL.

Terrorism & other Man made disasters • Re: Using Foil for a faraday cage

July 31, 2017 stonyman002 0

Four years ago as I was putting together my bug out bag, I dug around in line and found several posts that said several layers of tin foil would work. Depending on the post, some said as few as 7 layers and some said as many 10. My thoughts were it would depend on the thickness of the foil. I packed a small am/fm radio in my bob with 15 pieces of tin foil wrapped around it. Won’t know if it works till after the event. But worst case scenario I have 15 pieces of tin foil in my bob for cooking.

The sign on my front gate says….

My hogs can consume a thief in 5 days.
they were fed two days ago.
please wait three days to trespass.

FYI.
you don’t have to be dead to feed the hogs.

I have lived there 8 years and never had a problem.
