I know what you mean. It seems like there is a polarizing split in just about anything these days. To top it off “conservatives” are not really conservative any more. A true conservative would be pro choice both for financial reasons (a abortion is way cheaper than welfare) and political reasons (it is a decision that has nothing to do with government) but that is not the case when you ask a conservative. Freedom of religion is another hot button issue that a true conservative would champion, but it seems that christianity has got its hooks into conservatives and twisted it to mean freedom of christianity. As much as I don’t like fags, lgbt rights should technically be a conservative value because the government has no business in someones bedroom. There is a laundry list of true conservative values that are largely neglected in the modern conservative movement. I find it truly amusing that even when talking about preparedness there is a polarizing split, since when was basic survival based solely on political persuasion.

Granted I think many of the liberal ideals of fairness and equality and charity are garbage, because they defy the laws of nature that demand that only the strong & smart should survive and breed. But to discount a whole portion of the population based on their political persuasion seems shortsighted at best. I trade with a couple of ultra hippies that I would classify as extremely liberal, and they are as prepared as I am if not more. I think most of their preparedness is due to wanting to live a “carbon free” (whatever the hell that means) lifestyle, but they are prepared none the less. From bullets & arrows to solar & wind to dogs & horses their homestead will survive many years if not decades after a collapse, due to proper planning and efficient execution of those plans. The fact that they are bleeding heart liberals has no bearing on their long term survivability.

HEY!!! Permas back in town. Hows the homestead! I thought about you when i bought this fleece Balaclava the other day.

It was ok, had a wind storm a month ago and it shut down all the trails. Been clearing down trees to get the trap lines open. Figured since I wasn’t making any money I would come to town to visit the family for a few days and resupply. Unfortunately we got a snow dump a while ago on that covered up some overflow on the river, had a hell of a time getting back to town. Nice to see the family though, it was definitely worth the effort getting to town. That and now I can catch up on my reading here.

Alaska Discussion, News, and Weather • Finally a winter to be proud of

So I got back into town yesterday and I knew it was cold, but I had no idea. A bear had broke my thermometer this fall so when I took off I did not know the actual temp. I think I would have waited a while to make the trip if I had known. 50 below temps with a 30 mph wind (per snowmachine speedometer) equals really, really cold. Probably need to be in town until the weather breaks so that my freight does not shatter on the way home when I hit a bump.

It has been years since we have had multiple feet of snow, much less temps where they should be. Perhaps someone kicked Al Gore’s @ss and broke the global warming curse he placed on the planet. On the bright side I think that the overflow I went through on the way into town will be froze when I go home in a few days. Once the snow is packed down and the water is exposed it should not take long for it to freeze up at fifty below zero.
