As of yet, I really haven’t heard of any flu down here. Of course, since I’m no longer teaching K-12, I’m pretty much "out of the loop" on that score. (When I was in the schools, I had a pretty good indication. Now, not so much.)Statistics: …

Yep. In fact, I had to use my revolver just last week on the BIG western diamondback rattlesnake that had been hanging around (I think it was actually taking up residence under the house) and making it’s appearances around 9-10pm, threatening the dogs…

General Preparedness Discussion • October 2017 – What Did You Do To Prep This Week/Month?

October 2, 2017 IceFire 0

Starting off the new month.

Electrician has been out the last 2 days to
1.) Trench from the supply pole out to the “canning kitchen” and putting in conduit to run the new electric wire (since the old wire is shot…whoever put it in 30+ years ago “cut corners” and did NOT run it through conduit, and now it’s shorting out)
2.) Run additional conduit in the same trench before splitting off to DD’s house (we’ll run the wire later down the road, but having the conduit already in place makes things MUCH easier!)
3.) “Rough in” the wiring and boxes for outlets and lighting for the “she shed”, to include some exterior outlets.

Now that the wiring is in place, I can proceed with insulating. Already have several sections cut, just need to get them in place. Also started moving fabric boxes out of the bedroom and (temporarily) into the closet area of the shed.

Friends,
Maybe there is another term for what I mean, but to me “Off-Grid” means that you’re willing to live without electricity for the most part. Is there another word for this concept?

Sure, there’s another word for that concept: Amish!

Although, nowadays, a LOT of Amish use propane powered refrigerators, stoves, etc., and indoor plumbing. It depends on the local ordnung. Some are stricter than others. There are a couple of ordnungs still that do NOT allow propane-powered devices or indoor plumbing…those still use wood-burning stoves for cooking and heating, trek out to the outhouse, and bathing is conducted in a washtub in the kitchen with water heated on the stove.
