Swamp, Katrina hit the end of the month. Folks hung around to get their benefits on the 1st of the month.

Spending time with NOPD, they made one thing clear and that was the folks who didn’t leave were the ones they wished they would have.

Natural Disasters • Re: Cash demand soars in Puerto Rico

September 28, 2017 Blondie 0

My employer has offices in PR and they are closed indefinitely.

While there is “demand for cash” what are you spending it on? Little in the way of resources and what’s left would be price gouged. Ships and other containers from exporters like China still need to be cleared & inspected by Customs. With few employees and no electricity to operate systems.

If people aren’t working and most of PR is like a 3rd world country, what cash are they withdrawing?

Agreeing with Mrs. FP, Prepping is something that evolves with your needs.

Once you have your basics then you consider your future plans based on needs and wants. I went to acquiring durable goods about 2 yrs ago. Now I’m looking to plan my activities gearing up for retirement down the road. What will my future needs be and how to plan ?

It’s been awfully quiet, in fact too quiet for me. Can’t help but think something large scale is being planned.

While I have good friends in Cabbage Town outside of Toronto, they don’t Prep. The shootings at your Parliament building were unnerving to me. This was not Canada.

If you need anything, shout!

Try a search for cargo liner/cargo trays. I was looking at them for the back of my SUV but I haven’t bought one yet.

A detail shop here has them. Have you tried Tractor Supply?

You want them for your vehicle or for the house?

My experience is that if you put up a website directng people to free food & water give aways, people from 5 states away will show up swearing they were in the hurricane area.

People’s generosity to give during these episodes is often outpaced by other’s greed.

“Got some ID”? “Oh uh no we lost it in the flood”! “

There are FEMA & Salvation Army trucks in the area no doubt.

Illini, that’s what I’m suggestng – to take care of your own.

A Sherriff in most jurisdictions has the jail as their primary duty. This means feeding, housing prisoners, making sure they get their meds, transporting them to court and or prison. Right now they’re a bit overwhelmed.

If you live in a rural area, Sheriff’s road patrol is often suspended when they are short handed. Road patrol is never guaranteed. Even if your community contracts and pays for road patrol, there is usually language in the contract that says while the Sheriff will make every effort to maintain a road presence, it can’t be guaranteed.

In defense of the LEO’s, looting is a crime againt property. Not a matter of life & death.

You have a priority in your daily calls and I’m sure the short road staff has bigger issues to deal with.

That said, store owners will inflate their losses and insurance companies will dash their expectations of a bonanza settlement. Not to mention Pookie & Jose showing up to file for FEMA assistance just approved by DJT. Of course, they had grannie, grampy and 15 other relatives living with them who suffered catastrophic losses as well.

There was so much fraud going on post Katrina it was unreal.

Terrorism & other Man made disasters • Re: EMP-Korea Concerns & Discussions #6 (Sept 2017)

@Patrioticstabilist @Mollypup Ask what type of visa they are attempting to obtain.

All visas issued by our State Dept have an annual quota. I don’t know if that is calendar year or budget year which expires Sept 30th.

Once the quota is met, it’s a waiting game. Tourist/visitor visa is usually the easiest to obtain and for most countries, limited to 30-90 day stay in the US.

Terrorism & other Man made disasters • Re: Gas Mask questions

September 5, 2017 Blondie 0

I can’t speak specifically to military surplus but the biggest issue with any respirator is fit.

It must conform to the fit of your face without any leakage. If your spouse has facial hair you can get fitted but it’s more difficult.

You’re already at a disadvantage if it’s a used mask as the seal was conformed to someone else.

Swamp, there is a fine line between price gouging & entrepeneurship. ;)

I was on the Indiana Toll Road during Hurricane Sandy. About 6-8 pickup trucks passed in a convoy, all headed east. And all stocked with portable gennies. New in their boxes.

Profiteering off the unprepared. We often speak of items to store for barter. These guys were thinking the same, just a much bigger scale.

Try a local supplier to the Amish.

Lehman’s advertises themselves as such. They got their roots as a hardware store in Ohio’s Amish country but it’s more of a tourist attraction now. Hand crank wash tub with wringer, soap making supplies, oil lamps, to name a few.

I was down there over 4th of July. Lots of really dumb looks on people’s faces. Kinda the same dumb looks at the Mennonite bulk store.
