APN Getting Started In Preparedness Columnist

Jim began his journey in disaster readiness at a very young age, spending every free moment hiking and playing in the woods.  A voracious reader, he taught himself many primitive living skills.  When he was about 11 years old, he discovered two books that would set him on his current path — Life After Doomsday by Dr. Bruce D. Clayton and The Survivalist by Jerry Ahern.  For the next thirty years or so, Jim learned all he could about emergency preparedness.  Today, he writes a column for Survivalist Magazine titled The Frugal Prepper.  Jim has a website, Survival Weekly, where he is currently offering a free course in disaster readiness called the Countdown to Preparedness.  He also blogs daily at http://www.Survival-Gear.com/blog.  As of late, he is hard at work on his first book, Prepper’s Home Defense, due out in October, 2012, from Ulysses Press and available for pre-order on Amazon.
